The Tangle: Episode 10

Tomorrow is the first day of summer!

Spring really flew by for us at Collectively Tangled, and it seems like we’re not alone in that feeling.

With everything feeling like a bit of a blur, we’re taking that as a sign to pause and check in on our goals and plans for our 2024 Spring Quarter.

Here’s how that check-in is looking for us:

Lean into structure

Give your current self a break and use structures your past self created. For us, that’s the objectives, goals, milestones, and activities we set at the start of the year. It helps us evaluate progress in an objective and well-rounded way.

Celebrate the milestones

It’s easy for them to fly by, but taking stock of the wins helps us notice what’s working and keep motivation strong in our team. Be sure to share those wins with the whole team.

Don’t fight the challenges, but get curious

Honest moment here: there’s parts of growing our business that feel like slugging through quicksand. One step forward, two steps back. Instead of getting dragged down in the mud, we’re working to pause and get curious. What important information is this telling us? Often there’s surprising opportunities hidden in those challenges.

Our Tips and Tools section comes from getting curious about a challenge. Things like coaching and mentorship are widely accepted and built into our innovation ecosystem, but we’re still finding people aren’t sure how therapy fits into entrepreneurship.

It’s not that one is better than the other. Coaching, mentoring, and therapy are all valuable resources for entrepreneurs, but they serve different purposes and address different needs. Framing them together can help people understand how they all are needed components of a healthy ecosystem.

Tips & Tools 🛠

What’s the difference between coaching, mentoring, and therapy?

Coaching: Focuses on helping entrepreneurs set and achieve specific professional goals.

Examples:

  • Improving leadership skills.

  • Enhancing time management.

  • Strategic planning and execution.

Mentoring:  Involves a more experienced entrepreneur providing guidance, support, and advice to a less experienced entrepreneur.

Examples:

  • Navigating industry-specific challenges.

  • Building a professional network.

  • Career advancement advice.

Therapy: A professional service that focuses on overall strong mental health, focusing on self-understanding (a deeper understanding of oneself and one’s patterns).

Examples:

  • Managing stress and burnout.

  • Coping with failure and setbacks.

  • Addressing work-life balance issues.
