Client-Counsellor Relationship: How to make sure you’re aligned.

Making sure your counsellor is the right fit for you is an integral part of therapy—the client-counsellor relationship is key! Wondering how to do that? Here’s a few tips for that consultation call to make sure you’re aligned.

👉 Get on the same page:

After explaining what’s brought you to therapy (and what you hope to work on), find out how your therapist might approach your concerns. Does that approach make sense to you?

👉 Ask questions:

Whether you want to know about the therapy process in general or about the specific counsellor’s approach to therapy, use that 15-minute call to get the information you need to make an informed choice.

👉 Be honest:

If you are uncertain or hesitant for whatever reason, talk to your counsellor about your concerns. They’re there to support you in the process.
